Workshops

The following are the 2010 workshops. Detailed descriptions will be posted soon.
The cost is $30 and all are held at NSCC - Akerley Campus.
Lunch can be pre-booked during registration at an additional cost of $5. Participants should bring their own music stand, recorder (if desired), and for the keyboard workshop must bring their own keyboard.

 

    Advanced Fiddle (Calvin Vollrath)

    To get the most out of this workshop a good understanding of fiddle and music and five years of playing experience is recommended. Participants should have a strong grasp of bowing, patterns, and performance. Participants will receive in-depth instruction in mechanics, ornamentation, posture, vibrato, and other advanced techniques for fiddle. Participants will learn some new tunes and share some of their favorites, and will have input into other workshop topics to be covered.

     

     

    Fiddle Waltzes ( Anthony Rissesco)

    This is a workshop aimed at intermediate players, and will focus on techniques specific to fiddle waltzes. It will spend significant time on bowing and timing techniques for waltzes.

     

    Step Dance (Jocelyne Bourque)

    This workshop is open to ages 6 to 106 and will cover the down east style of step dance. The level of coverage will be tailored to the experience of those registered for the workshop. Please bring comfortable shoes and appropriate attire for dancing.

     

    Piano/Keyboard (Bill Guest)

    This workshop will include bass runs, chording, selection of chord inversions, altered chords such as 6th and 9ths, following chord charts, and the use of diminished chords. It will also cover intros and endings for waltzes, as well as techniques for accompaniment.
